Gen Z: 2 Kings 12
In the seventh year of Jehu, Jehoash popped off and reigned for forty years in Jerusalem. His mom's name was Zibiah from Beer-sheba, no cap.
Jehoash was vibing right with the Lord as long as Jehoiada the priest was schooling him.
But those high places? Still sus. People were out here sacrificing and burning incense there.
Jehoash told the priests, "Yo, all the cash from the dedicated stuff that comes to the Lord's house, just take it and do your thing."
"Let the priests handle it, fam, and fix the house wherever there's a leak."
But for real, in the twenty-third year of King Jehoash, the priests still hadn’t fixed the leaks.
Then King Jehoash hit up Jehoiada the priest and the other priests, asking, "Why aren’t you fixing the leaks? Stop taking money from your homies and use it for the repairs."
The priests were like, "Bet, we won’t take any more cash from the people or fix the leaks."
But Jehoiada took a chest, drilled a hole in it, and put it by the altar, where the priests who guarded the door dropped all the cash coming into the Lord's house.
When they saw there was mad cash in the chest, the king’s scribe and the high priest came through, bagged it up, and counted the money found in the Lord's house.
They handed out the cash to the workers overseeing the Lord's house, and it went to the carpenters and builders working on it.
They also paid masons and stone cutters, and bought timber and cut stone to fix the leaks in the Lord's house, no cap.
But they didn’t make any silver bowls, snuffers, basins, trumpets, or gold/silver vessels with the cash brought into the Lord's house.
Instead, they gave that to the workers and fixed up the Lord's house with it.
Plus, they didn’t keep track of the cash given to the workers because they were straight-up loyal.
The money for trespasses and sins wasn’t brought into the Lord's house; that was just for the priests.
Then Hazael, king of Syria, rolled up, fought Gath, and took it, then set his sights on Jerusalem.
Jehoash, king of Judah, took all the holy stuff that Jehoshaphat, Jehoram, and Ahaziah, his dads, dedicated, plus his own holy things and all the gold from the treasures of the Lord's house and the king's house, and sent it to Hazael, king of Syria, who dipped from Jerusalem.
The rest of Joash's acts, everything he did? Isn’t that written in the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
His servants rose up, made a plot, and took Joash out in the house of Millo, which leads down to Silla.
Jozachar, son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad, son of Shomer, his servants, got him, and he died; they buried him with his dads in the city of David, and Amaziah, his son, took the throne.
