Gen Z: Joshua 4
So, when everyone was totally across the Jordan, the Lord hit up Joshua and said,
"Grab twelve homies from the crew, one from each tribe, no cap,"
"And tell them to scoop up twelve stones from where the priests stood strong in Jordan, then carry them with you to the spot where you’re crashing tonight."
Then Joshua called the twelve guys he prepped from the Israelites, one from each tribe, like,
"Yo, pass over in front of the Lord’s ark and each one of you grab a stone on your shoulder, matching the number of tribes."
"This will be a sign for you, so when your kids ask about these stones later, you can tell them,"
"The waters of Jordan got cut off before the Lord’s covenant ark; when it crossed, the waters were gone, and these stones are a forever memorial for Israel."
And the Israelites did exactly what Joshua said, snagging twelve stones from Jordan, just as the Lord told Joshua, and carried them to where they were staying, laying them down there.
Joshua set up twelve stones right in the Jordan, where the priests who carried the ark stood, and they’re still there today, fr.
The priests holding the ark stood in the Jordan until everything the Lord told Joshua to say was done, just like Moses instructed him, and the people rushed across.
When everyone was finally over, the ark of the Lord crossed too, with the priests in front of the crowd.
The Reubenites, Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh crossed over armed, just as Moses told them to.
Around forty thousand prepped for battle crossed before the Lord to the plains of Jericho, straight up.
That day, the Lord made Joshua look super lit in front of all Israel; they respected him like they did Moses, all his life.
Then the Lord hollered at Joshua, saying,
"Tell the priests carrying the ark of the testimony to come up outta Jordan."
So Joshua told the priests, "Yo, come up out of Jordan."
And when the priests carrying the Lord’s covenant ark stepped up from the Jordan and hit dry land, the waters went back to where they were, flooding over all the banks like before.
The people came up out of Jordan on the tenth day of the first month and camped in Gilgal, on the east side of Jericho.
Those twelve stones they took from Jordan? Joshua set them up in Gilgal.
He told the Israelites, "When your kids ask their dads later, 'What’s up with these stones?'
You gotta tell them, 'Israel crossed over this Jordan on dry land.'"
"For the Lord your God dried up the waters of Jordan before you until you crossed, just like He did with the Red Sea, which He dried up for us to pass."
"So that everyone on earth will know the Lord’s hand is mighty, and you can respect the Lord your God forever."
