Gen Z: Exodus 17
The whole squad of Israel bounced from the wilderness of Sin, following God's orders, and set up camp in Rephidim. No cap, there was no water for the peeps to drink.
So the people started beefing with Moses, saying, "Yo, give us some water to drink." Moses was like, "Why you coming at me? Why you testing the Lord?"
The people were super thirsty there; they were low-key grumbling against Moses, asking, "Why’d you bring us out of Egypt just to let us and our kids and livestock die of thirst?"
Moses hit up the Lord, saying, "What should I do with this crew? They’re about to throw hands at me."
And the Lord told Moses, "Roll out ahead of the people, grab some elders of Israel, and take your rod—the one you used to hit the river. Let’s go."
Check it, I’ll be chilling on the rock in Horeb; you’ll smack the rock, and water will flow out so the people can drink. Moses did it right in front of the elders.
He named the spot Massah and Meribah 'cause the Israelites were arguing and testing the Lord, asking, "Is the Lord with us or nah?"
Then Amalek rolled up and fought Israel in Rephidim.
Moses told Joshua, "Pick some guys and go fight Amalek. Tomorrow I’ll be on the hill with the rod of God."
So Joshua did what Moses said and fought Amalek, while Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up the hill.
Whenever Moses raised his hand, Israel was winning; when he dropped his hand, Amalek was winning.
But Moses’ hands got heavy, so they found a stone for him to sit on, and Aaron and Hur held up his hands, one on each side, keeping them steady until sunset.
Joshua took down Amalek and his crew with the sword.
The Lord told Moses, "Write this down as a memorial in a book, and let Joshua hear it, 'cause I’m gonna wipe Amalek’s name off the map."
Moses built an altar and named it JEHOVAH-nissi.
He said, "The Lord has sworn to have beef with Amalek from generation to generation."
