Gen Z: Deuteronomy 1
Moses was vibing with all of Israel on this side of the Jordan, chillin' in the wilderness by the Red Sea, between Paran, Tophel, Laban, Hazeroth, and Dizahab.
It's an eleven-day trek from Horeb to Kadesh-barnea, just saying.
So, in the fortieth year, eleventh month, first day, Moses started dropping knowledge to the kids of Israel, all the stuff the Lord told him to say, no cap.
After he took out Sihon, the king of the Amorites in Heshbon, and Og, the king of Bashan at Astaroth in Edrei, he was on a roll.
On this side of the Jordan, in Moab, Moses was like, “Yo, listen up, I gotta share this law with you!”
The Lord said to us in Horeb, “You’ve been chilling on this mountain for way too long.”
Get moving, fam! Head to the mount of the Amorites and hit up all the spots nearby—plains, hills, valleys, south, and by the sea, to the land of the Canaanites and Lebanon, all the way to the Euphrates river.
Check it, I’ve laid out the land for you: go in and claim it, just like the Lord promised your peeps, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, for you and your future fam.
I told you back then, “I can’t handle all of you by myself, fr.”
The Lord your God has multiplied you, and now you’re as many as the stars in the sky, no cap.
God’s gonna level you up a thousand times and bless you, no cap!
How am I supposed to handle all your drama and stress by myself, fr?
Grab some wise peeps from your crew, and I’ll make them your leaders, bet!
You guys said, “That sounds lit, let’s do it!”
So I picked the top dogs from your tribes, wise and known, and made them your captains over all the squads.
I told your judges to listen up and keep it real between you and your homies, no sus vibes.
Don’t play favorites when judging; listen to everyone, big or small, and don’t be scared of anyone’s face, ‘cause the judgment is God’s. If it’s too tough, just hit me up, and I got you.
I laid down all the rules for you back then, periodt.
When we bounced from Horeb, we crossed that wild and crazy desert, just like God told us, and we rolled up to Kadesh-barnea.
I told you, “You’ve arrived at the mountain of the Amorites, which God is giving us, let’s go!”
Yo, check it! God’s laid out the land for you, so go claim it like He said; no cap, don’t be scared or stressed.
Y'all came to me and were like, “Let’s send some peeps to scout the land and tell us how to roll out and which cities to hit.”
I was totally down with that vibe, so I picked twelve of you, one from each crew.
They bounced and hit the mountains, then checked out the valley of Eshcol.
They grabbed some fruit from the land and brought it back, saying, “This place is lit; God’s giving us the goods.”
But y’all didn’t wanna go up and totally rebelled against what God told you.
You were grumbling in your tents, saying, “God’s not feeling us; He brought us out of Egypt just to hand us over to the Amorites to wipe us out.”
You were like, “Where do we go? Our fam is scaring us, saying the people are way bigger, and the cities are stacked up to the sky; plus, we saw the Anakim there.”
Then I told you, “Chill, don’t be shook by them.”
The Lord your God is rolling ahead of you, and He’s got your back like He did in Egypt, for real.
In the wild, you saw how the Lord carried you like a dad carries his kid, all the way until you hit this spot. No cap.
But for real, you didn't trust the Lord your God in this.
He was out there ahead of you, scouting a spot to set up camp, with fire at night and a cloud during the day to show you the way. Lit!
The Lord heard your words and got mad, swearing,
"Not one of this squad from this shady generation will see that good land I promised your fam."
Except Caleb, son of Jephunneh; he’ll see it, and I’ll give him the land he walked on, plus for his kids, 'cause he totally followed the Lord.
The Lord was also heated with me for your sake, saying, "You’re not going in either."
But Joshua, son of Nun, who’s chillin’ in front of you, he’s the one going in: hype him up, 'cause he’ll help Israel take it.
And your little ones, who you thought would be snacks, and your kids, who didn’t even know good from bad back then, they’ll go in, and I’ll give it to them, and they’ll own it.
But you, turn around and bounce into the wild by the Red Sea way.
Y’all said, “We messed up with the Lord, but we’re down to fight, just like God told us.” So you strapped up your war gear, ready to hit the hill.
But the Lord was like, “Nah, don’t go up and fight; I’m not with you, and you’ll get wrecked by your enemies.”
I told you what’s up, but you didn’t listen, just straight-up rebelled against what the Lord said and marched up that hill all cocky.
The Amorites living up there came at you like bees and totally wrecked you in Seir, all the way to Hormah.
You came back crying to the Lord, but He wasn’t having it and didn’t even listen to your cries.
So you just chilled in Kadesh for a minute, like, a long time.
