Gen Z: 2 Kings 14
In year two of Joash, son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel, Amaziah, son of Joash, was running the show in Judah. Vibes.
Dude was 25 when he started his reign and held it down for 29 years in Jerusalem. His mom's name? Jehoaddan, straight outta Jerusalem.
He was doing what’s right in God’s eyes, but not quite like his pops David; he was just following Joash's lead, no cap.
But for real, they didn’t take down the high places; the people were still vibing with their sacrifices and incense up there.
As soon as he got the kingdom on lock, he took out the servants who had offed his dad, savage move.
But he didn’t touch the kids of those murderers, keeping it biblical as the law said: parents don’t pay for their kids' sins, and vice versa, periodt.
He took out ten thousand Edomites in the salt valley and snagged Selah in battle, naming it Joktheel to this day. Lit.
Then Amaziah hit up Jehoash, son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel, like, "Yo, let’s face off."
Jehoash shot back, saying the thistle in Lebanon hit up the cedar, asking to marry his daughter, but a wild beast stomped on the thistle. Sus.
You’ve wrecked Edom, and now you’re feeling yourself: chill and stay home; why mess with the drama, risking a fall for you and Judah?
But Amaziah was like, "Nah fam," so Jehoash, the king of Israel, pulled up; they stared each other down at Beth-shemesh, which is totally Judah territory.
Judah took a major L against Israel; everyone dipped back to their tents, no cap.
Jehoash, king of Israel, caught Amaziah, king of Judah, at Beth-shemesh, then rolled to Jerusalem and straight-up wrecked the wall from Ephraim Gate to the corner gate, four hundred cubits.
He snagged all the gold and silver, plus all the holy stuff found in the Lord's house and the king’s stash, then bounced back to Samaria.
So like, all the other epic things Jehoash did and how he fought Amaziah, aren't they in the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
Jehoash chilled with his fam, got buried in Samaria with the kings, and his son Jeroboam took over.
Amaziah, son of Joash, king of Judah, lived fifteen years after Jehoash, son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel, passed away.
And all the other things Amaziah did, aren't they in the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
They straight-up plotted against him in Jerusalem; he bounced to Lachish, but they sent the squad after him and took him out there.
They brought him back on horses and buried him in Jerusalem with his fam in the city of David.
All the peeps in Judah were like, “Let’s make Azariah, this 16-year-old, our king instead of his dad Amaziah.”
He built up Elath and brought it back for Judah, then the king went to chill with his ancestors.
In the fifteenth year of Amaziah, Joash's son, Jeroboam, popped off as king in Samaria and flexed for 41 years.
But he was straight-up sus in God's eyes, not backing down from all the sins of Jeroboam, son of Nebat, who got Israel to mess up.
He brought back the coast of Israel from Hamath to the sea of the plain, just like the Lord told His dude Jonah, the prophet from Gath–hepher.
The Lord saw how rough it was for Israel, super bitter vibes: no one was locked up, no one left, and no helpers for Israel.
But the Lord wasn’t about to erase Israel’s name from the heavens; He came through for them thanks to Jeroboam, son of Joash.
Now, all the other stuff Jeroboam did, his strength, how he fought, and how he got back Damascus and Hamath for Israel—ain’t that in the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
Jeroboam went to chill with his ancestors, just like the kings of Israel; then his son Zachariah took over the throne.
