Gen Z: Jeremiah 39
In the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon pulled up with his whole squad and besieged Jerusalem. Savage vibes.
Fast forward to the eleventh year, fourth month, ninth day—boom, the city got wrecked.
All the bosses from Babylon rolled in and chilled at the middle gate, like Nergal–sharezer, Samgar–nebo, and the rest of the crew.
When Zedekiah saw them and all his warriors, they dipped outta the city at night through the king's garden. No cap.
But the Chaldeans chased them down and caught Zedekiah in Jericho's plains, then brought him to Nebuchadnezzar for judgment.
Then Nebuchadnezzar straight-up took out Zedekiah's sons right in front of him and wiped out all the nobles of Judah.
He also blinded Zedekiah and chained him up to take him to Babylon.
The Chaldeans torched the king's crib and the people's houses, demolishing Jerusalem's walls like it was nothing.
Nebuzar–adan, the captain, took the last of the people left in the city to Babylon, including those who switched sides.
But Nebuzar–adan left the poor folks who had nothing in Judah and hooked them up with vineyards and fields.
Now, Nebuchadrezzar told Nebuzar–adan to keep an eye on Jeremiah.
He said, "Take care of him, no harm, just do whatever he asks."
So Nebuzar–adan sent out the crew, including Nebushasban and Nergal–sharezer, to handle Jeremiah.
They pulled Jeremiah out of prison and gave him to Gedaliah, so he could chill at home with the people.
While Jeremiah was locked up, the Lord hit him up with a message.
He told him to go talk to Ebed–melech and drop this: "Yo, I’m about to bring my words on this city for bad, not good—trust it’ll happen."
But I got you on that day, says the Lord: you won’t be handed over to those you’re scared of.
I’ll deliver you for sure; you won’t bite the dust, your life will be safe because you trust in me, says the Lord.
